It took a good 5 weeks of construction, rebuilding, and painting to refurbish our old kitchen and bathroom at the church. But as we saw the potential to use it even more with all of the upcoming ministries, events and outreaches, we are blessed to have been able to upgrade it at this time. All of the volunteers who serve on Sundays have enjoyed the extra counter space and room to be able to prepare the lunches after service and at nights the cafe staff benefited from all of the changes. These are photos before we moved everything back in there, but we are so blessed with how it turned out!
Starting next week, we will be opening the invitation for the free lunches to kids 9 and under to the neighborhood surrounding Calvary Motul. Our hope is that not only new kids will come to the church service, but their family as well. We don't know how many to expect as this is a step out in faith. How do you prepare for how many to feed? How many crafts will we need to have ready in Sunday school? We hope for a lot of kids to come! Please keep this in your prayers - on Saturday, September 7, we will go out into the neighborhood to invite. Then, on September 8, it will be our first Sunday to open the "feed-the-kids" ministry to the public. We are praying/asking for sponsors to help fund this ministry as free food for the kids is not free for us. If you would like to be a part, please make a note on your donation that it is for "feed-the-kids" so it can go directly to this ministry.
Our VBS is coming up soon. We decided not to do it during the summertime, as so many other churches have theirs and the summer break here is so short (only 4 weeks). So, this year we are trying something different - having a 3-night VBS in October. Our hope is that even more kids will be able to come since this will be during the evening, a time where their parents aren't at work and can bring them. This year the focus will be on the fruit of the Spirit. Day 1 - love, day 2 - joy, day 3 - peace.... then, after VBS, each Sunday we will continue to teach on the next fruit of the Spirit until all 9 have been taught. We pray that this will be one reason that the kids from VBS will want to come back on Sundays. Most of the kids that come to VBS are not from our church; but every year it seems that the Lord uses this outreach to bring more families to Calvary and then in time, they come to know Him. Typically, we see anywhere from 50-100 kids come through our doors per day. Looking at the last 2 years, we have averaged per year about $750 (usd) in cost to cover everything. This includes all of the advertising, programming, games, crafts, materials, and a free meal for every kid and volunteer. We are already starting to advertise and plan as it is not too far away - October 17-19. If you can help, please note on your donation "VBS" so we can use it for this outreach.
