This year was the first time we had our Vacation Bible School not in the summer. We wanted to try something different and so we had three nights of VBS in the middle of October. It rained all three days, but it always settled down right before our opening time. We had many kids that we had seen before from previous years as well as all of our church kids came and we saw some new faces. Many volunteers stepped it up and led different parts of VBS when it came time to hosting, leading crafts, running the games, teaching the main session... it was a blessing to see them serve the Lord in new ways. We prayed so hard that there would be a good connection beyond just the three days with the children that attended. That following Sunday after VBS our Sunday school room was full. We had 18 kids with 7 of them being new kids! We hope and pray that the fruit of this VBS is everlasting. We are continuing to teach the fruit of the Spirit on Sundays - one fruit for each Sunday. The kids collect a card of the fruit of the Spirit for each lesson they attend. If they collect all 9, they will get 10 Bible bills to be able to spend in the Bible prize store! They are so proud of their collection as they show them off each week. They are now half way through. Here you can watch a video of this year's VBS:
With more kids, this means less space. This is a good problem to have - to need more space. We are super blessed to have so many kids come to church. We are now praying about building a bigger classroom on top of the sanctuary. We don't have any money, but God already knows that. We just ask for you to pray with us.
During this October season, it is that time for pib (a Mayan baked tamale pie). It is a traditional dish that is only prepared during this time of year. Natalie was invited by one of the ladies from the church to take part in the process of making it. She was told that it would only take 2 hours. Four hours later, they just finished putting them all together to get ready to be baked. Some still bake it the original way in the ground, but they used an oven. Natalie started in the morning with them by stripping and cleaning the banana leaves, cutting up the veggies, and making the masa bowl to add everything inside to finally wrapping it up in the banana leaves and tying it all together. Later that evening, we got to enjoy some yummy pib.
